Leading through Health System Change: A Public Health Opportunity Planning Tool
Using the experience of working with diverse stakeholders in thinking about health reform from an adaptive perspective, the Georgia Health Policy Center, National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI), and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Office of Health Reform created a learning process to help public health leaders understand and apply adaptive thinking to health care reform with the goal of improving population health.
A collaborative planning tool with three guided practices was created and is currently in use as an online portal and interactive PDF by more than 800 public health entities in 49 states (www.acaplanningtool.com). Dissemination has included informational webinars and presentaDetions to the CDC, ASTHO, NACCHO, Trust for America’s Health, the NNPHI, the California Department of Public Health, the Virginia partment of Public Health and its county affiliates, APHA, and others. Further dissemination efforts are scheduled to include partner communication channels (newsletters, websites, webinars, and social media); national conference presentations; flash drive distribution; and online portal resources including success stories, videos, and an online forum learning community. The project received White House, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and CDC clearance.
